Which countries are most popular destinations for labor migrants from Turkey?

From January to September 2019, Turkish citizens mainly visited countries such as Saudi Arabia, Germany, Russia, Algeria and Iraq in order to find work, a source in the Turkish Employment Agency (ISKUR) told Trend Oct. 16.

From January to September 2019, Turkish citizens most often went to Saudi Arabia in search of work, according to the report.

The source noted that for the nine months of 2019, 1,700 Turkish citizens visited the Saudi Arabia via ISKUR. The number of Turkish citizens visiting Saudi Arabia via ISKUR to find work decreased by six percent compared to the same period in 2018.

From January to September 2019, the number of Turkish citizens visiting Germany via ISKUR in search of work increased by 33.7 percent compared to the same period in 2018, and amounted to 1,600 people.

“From January to September 2019, the number of Turkish citizens who visited Russia for the same purpose via ISKUR also decreased by 24.4 percent compared to the same period in 2018, and amounted to 1,600 people,” the source said.

“Algeria ranks fourth in the list of job search destinations - from January to September 2019, 1,100 Turkish citizens visited this country via ISKUR, which is 46.9 percent less compared to the same period in 2018,” the source said.

In first nine months 2019, the number of Turkish citizens who visited Iraq via ISKUR in order to find work increased by 86.1 percent compared to the same period in 2018 and amounted to 1,130 people.

In the reporting period, 14,200 Turkish citizens went abroad via ISKUR, which is 15 percent less compared to the same period in 2018.

In September 2019, 182,600 citizens were provided with jobs through ISKUR in Turkey, which is 72.5 percent more compared to September 2018. Of those employed, 34.2 percent were women, and 65.8 percent were men.

Of the jobs secured in September 2019, 99.4 percent accounted for the private sector.

In September 2019, the number of unemployed in Turkey amounted to 4.053 million people, of which 50.6 percent were women and 49.4 percent were men.
