Azerbaijan exports major part of cargo via railways

Around 31.5 million metric tons of cargo was transported on Azerbaijan's territory by vehicles in Jan.-Oct. 2014, which is 6.04 percent less than in the same period of 2013, the country's State Customs Committee said in its report.

The total cost of cargo transportation has decreased by 7.8 percent and stood at $26.56 billion.

This is while the exports and imports of cargo were equal to 24.62 million metric tons and 6.86 million metric tons, respectively during the reporting period.

Some 230,470 metric tons of cargo was transported via the sea transport, 2.4 million metric tons - via railways, 455,540 metric tons - via the road transport and 80,980 metric tons of cargo was transported via air transport in Jan.-Oct.

The transportation by stationary vehicles totaled 21.45 million metric tons, while some 0.12 metric tons of cargo was sent from the country through the postal service.

At the same time, during the reporting period, Azerbaijan imported nearly 1.4 million metric tons of cargo via sea transport, 3.74 million metric tons - via railways, 1.7 million metric tons - via road transport and 10,070 metric tons of cargo - via air transport.

Stationary vehicles were not used for the cargo imports during the reporting period.

Around 2.21 metric tons of cargo worth of $406,390 was delivered to the country via the postal service.
