Iran’s non-oil foreign trade surpasses $42.7B

Iran's non-oil exports (excluding gas condensates) surpassed $16.685 billion during the first half of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 21-Sept. 22) which indicates an increase by 9.3 percent compared to the same period of the preceding year.

Iran exported some 38.663 million metric tons of non-oil goods during that period which is 0.45 percent less compared to the 6-month period of last year, according to the Iranian Customs Administration's latest monthly report released Oct. 2.

The country's total exports including gas condensates and petrochemicals amounted to $23.199 billion, 19.62 percent more compared to the last fiscal year's first six months.

Iran exported $6.514 billion worth of gas condensates during that period, which indicates an increase by 57.8 percent in comparison with the same period of preceding year.

Meanwhile, the country's petrochemical exports surpassed $6.721 billion, 22 percent more compared to the last fiscal year's first half.

Condensates and petrochemicals shared 28.1 percent and 28.97 percent of Iran's total non-oil exports respectively during the period.

Liquefied propane worth $1 billion, methanol worth $817 million and liquefied butane worth $730 million also topped the list of Iran's exported non-oil goods.

The Islamic Republic also imported about $26.021 billion worth of goods during the period, which indicates a rise by 29.54 percent, compared to the 6-month period of the preceding year (21 March, 2013 to 22 Sept. 2013).

The volume of the country's imports stood at 19.588 million metric tons, 46.16 percent more year on year.

Wheat worth $1.286 billion (with share of 4.94 percent from total imports' value), motor vehicles with internal combustion engine worth $947 million (3.64 percent of total imports' value), rice worth $827 million (3.18 percent), corn fodder worth $710 million (2.73 percent) and soybean meal $631 million (2.43 percent) topped the list of Iran's imported goods.

China was the main target of Iran's exported goods in the first six months of the current Iranian fiscal year. Some $4.575 billion worth of Iran's exported none-oil goods went to China during the period, 32.87 percent more compared to same period of preceding year, however the country's imports from Iran registered a 4 percent decline and stood at 14.449 million metric tons.

Iraq, the UAE, Afghanistan and India were other top importers of Iranian goods during the mentioned period. The countries imported $2.772 billion, $1.858 billion, $1.238 billion and $1.128 billion worth of Iranian goods, respectively.

While the value of UAE's imports from Iran increased by 2.25 percent, Tehran's exports to Afghanistan, Iraq and India has fallen by 3.81 percent, 6 percent and 12 percent respectively.

The United Arab Emirates, China, India, South Korea and Turkey were the leading exporters of goods to Iran. They exported $6.544 billion, $5.896 billion, $2 billion, $1.984 billion and $1.9 billion worth of goods to Iran during the period.

The UAE and China's exports to Iran has increased by 60.2 percent and 61.48 percent during the period, meanwhile the exports of India, South Korea and Turkey to the country indicates increase by 2.75 percent, 9.91 percent and 9.83 percent respectively in comparison with first six months of last fiscal year.

The mentioned five countries share 70.5 percent of Iran's total imports' value in the period.

Iran's imports from the UAE registered a sharp rise by 90.9 percent in terms of volume, meanwhile the volume of imports from the South Korea declined by 31.98 percent during the period year on year.
