Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's fatwa on banning the use of nuclear weapons (haram) and the Iranian scientists' position on Islamic unity should be brought before the international community, Iranian Parliamentary Speaker Ali Larijani was quoted as saying by the Mehr news agency.
"Many people are not familiar with Khamenei's fatwa on banning the use of nuclear weapons and the Iranian scientists' position on Islamic unity," Larijani said at the meeting with the Foreign Ministry's Gum Office head.
He said these issues should be brought before the international community in the form of a document.
In his speech last year, Khamenei said that "the Iranian people and officials have repeatedly stated that the country's regime has no nuclear weapons, and the Islamic religion forbids the use of nuclear weapons. But Western countries, especially the United States, state in their false propaganda that Iran wants to build an atomic bomb. This behavior is a blatant violation of truth."
The United States and other Western countries accuse Iran of developing nuclear weapons for military purposes under the guise of peaceful nuclear energy program. Tehran denies the charges, saying that its nuclear program is aimed solely at meeting the country's electricity needs. The U.N. Security Council adopted five resolutions in connection with the suspension of Iran's nuclear program. Three involve the use of economic sanctions on Iran.
