International Humanitarian Forum on the "XXI century: hopes and challenges" started in Gulustan palace, in Baku.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and first lady Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva participated in the opening ceremony of the forum and the first plenary meeting.

Head of Russia`s Presidential Administration Sergey Naryshkin read out a congratulatory letter of President Dmitry Medvedev.

The forum is attended by the 9th President of Turkey Suleyman Demirel, Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Mevlut Chavushoglu, UNESCO deputy director for communication and information issues Yanes Karklins, ISESCO Director General Abdulaziz Othman Al-Twaijri, ex-presidents of Romania, Slovakia and Bulgaria, Nobel Prize winners, intelligentsia and several countries' public figures.

The Baku International Humanitarian Forum is an authoritative ground, where issues of the widest humanitarian cooperation are discussed. Azerbaijan, the country with rich traditions of cooperation between cultures, civilizations and confessions, is an ideal venue for events in this format.

The event is bringing together the public and political figures, workers of culture and art, heads of the authoritative mass media. The two-day forum is initiated by Presidents, Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Dmitry Medvedev of Russia.

Discussions on the subjects "Humanitarian aspects of economic models of development", "Modem technologies that changed the world", "Traditional values system in postmodern culture", "Biotechiologies and ethical problems", "Multiculturalism: achievements and problems", "Social journalism and high technologies", "Convergence of sciences" will be held in seven panels within the forum.
