Syrian rebels release Iranian captive

One of the 48 Iranian pilgrims who were kidnapped in the Syrian capital several months ago was released on Saturday, Fars reported.

The released Iranian, Majid Adeli, is an employee of the cultural section of the Iranian Embassy in Damascus and was abducted along with 47 others in Zeinabiyah neighborhood of Damascus in August while they were on a pilgrimage trip.

The report did not provide any further details.

On August 4, armed insurgents in Syria kidnapped 48 Iranian pilgrims who were traveling on a bus from Damascus International Airport to the shrine of Hazrat Zainab (AS) on the outskirts of Damascus.

Iranian foreign ministry officials have stated that Tehran is using all its diplomatic, political and security capacities and means to release the 48 pilgrims.

Ever since the abductions took place, the Foreign Ministry and the Iranian embassy in Damascus have been pursuing the fate and release of the kidnapped Iranian nationals through different channels.
