Mine blast injures six Turkish troops

At least six Turkish soldiers were injured in a land mine explosion on Monday when a military vehicle carrying soldiers stepped on it in southeastern Turkish province of Diyarbakır Today`s Zaman reported.

Governor Mustafa Toprak said the land mine, believed to be planed by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) terrorists, exploded at 21:00 on Monday when the military vehicle carrying soldiers from Hani district to Lice district drove over it.

Toprak said six of nine military personnel in the armored vehicle were slightly injured and they were taken to Diyarbakır for treatment. He said the health situation of the wounded soldiers were well.

The land mine blast created a wide and deep crater on the road. Security forces launched a large-scale operation in the area following the incident.

More than 40,000 people have been killed in 28 years of fighting between Turkey and the PKK, which is designated a terrorist group by Ankara, the United States and the European Union.
