Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 5 / Trend S.Agayeva /

The international community will not recognize the "election", which the separatist regime of the Nagorno-Karabakh plans to hold in the Azerbaijani occupied territories, Baku stated.

Feb.5, Head of the so-called "Nagorno-Karabakh Republic" (NKR) Bako Saakyan signed a decree to appoint the next elections to the National Assembly of NKR May 23, 2010, Novosti Armenia reported.

The international community will not recognize the "election" in the Nagorno-Karabakh and this will not be accepted seriously, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Elkhan Polukhov told Trend .

Armenia's political elite will put itself in an awkward position and once again confirm the occupation policy, he added.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh region and the occupied territories.
