Sumgait, Ludwigshafen sign new agreement

The Azerbaijani city of Sumgait and Germany's Ludwigshafen signed a new agreement, Sumgait City Executive Power said.

Both cities within the framework of "Support to development of local self-government in the South Caucasus" till December 2011 reached an agreement to participate in the project "Cooperation between the partner cities of Germany-Caucasus ". The project, in addition to exchange experiences in urban management, also includes discussion of specific measures agreed between the sides.

Azerbaijani city of Sumgait, and the German city of Ludwigshafen over 30 years are twin cities. Since 2002, the cities are involved in a project of the German Society for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) "Cooperation between the partner cities of Germany-Caucasus ".

Since then, a number of activities related to Sumgait's urban management, ecology, education and other areas were held with the participation of the German specialists.

The basis of relations between the cities of Sumgait and Ludwigshafen was founded in 1977. In 1987 the cities signed an agreement on the establishment of partnerships.
