The law enforcement agencies of Azerbaijan have detained a suspect in the Baku building fire outbreak investigation.
The suspect is the head of the Global Construction company Miryusif Makhmudov, said the message of the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan.
Makhmudov is accused of using low-quality cladding materials during the cladding of the building, where as a result of the fire outbreak many people died and even more were left wounded.
Makhmudov did not use the power as required by his official duty, and was using low-quality cladding materials during the work, according to the message.
A criminal case under Articles 225.2 (violation of fire safety regulations), 308.2 (abuse of power) and 314.2 (negligence) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan Republic was launched in the Grave Crimes Investigation Department of the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan in connection with the fire.
Some 16 people were killed, 54 people were injured due to the fire that occurred in a high rise at Azadlig Avenue in Baku, according to the latest data.
