Baku, Azerbaijan, May 21

The goals of sustainable development are one of the most important directions of activity of the Azerbaijani government, the country’s Deputy Prime Minister Ali Ahmadov said May 21 at an international conference “Towards Sustainable Development Goals: Promotion of Sustainable Development and Decent Work” in Baku.
He noted that one of the most important factors in the world for changing people’s lives is labor-related, and the Azerbaijani government is taking all the necessary steps to provide citizens with decent work.
“As many as 1.9 million new jobs have been created in Azerbaijan over the past 15 years, which is about 40 percent of the active population in Azerbaijan,” he said.
He stressed that Azerbaijan is among the countries with rapid population growth, which amounts to up to 1.2 percent per year.
“This is quite a big figure, which makes it necessary to create more than 100,000 jobs annually,” Ahmadov said.
He added that 46 percent of Azerbaijan’s population are people under the age of 29 years.
“This sets important tasks to provide the youth with work,” he said. “The necessary steps in this direction will be continued.”
