BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 9. The UN Security Council mechanism is outdated, former Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik said during his speech at the X Global Baku Forum, Trend reports.

The former PM noted that the global security architecture created after the end of World War II does not meet modern requirements.

Bondevik also added that the privileged position of the permanent members of the UN Security Council complicates the process of reforming the structure.

The Norwegian politician concluded by saying that the best method for conflict resolution is the path of peace and diplomacy.

Organized by the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, under the patronage of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the X Global Baku Forum has kicked off today. The forum’s topic this year is "The World of Today: Challenges and Hopes".

The X Forum is attended by high-ranking guests from dozens of countries, among them current and former heads of states and governments, prominent public and political figures, leading foreign experts, the leadership of the World Health Organization, the League of Arab States, and other major international organizations.
