Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr S. Agayeva / Detained Azerbaijani journalists may be pardoned in the near future, the Head of Staff of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Ramiz Mehdiyev said to journalists on 10 December.
Only the President can pardon prisoners, he said.
According to Mehdiyev, the President from time to time reverts to the issue. "I believe the process will continue," he said.
The presidential pardon decree may cover not only journalists, Mehdiyev said.
At present, nine journalists are imprisoned in Azerbaijan charged with mostly abuse and defamation.
