The Azerbaijani Youth and Sport Ministry aims to solve youth employment issues in 2009.
"Youth employment is a key problem in the country. The ministry is focused on solving this issue," Youth and Sport Minister Azad Rahimov told journalists on Jan. 30.
Some 60 percent of the Azerbaijani population are between the ages of 14 and 29.
The ministry cannot open jobs and build companies, Rahimov said.
"The ministry supports opening career centers and holding labor fairs. After opening a career center at the Economics University, some 700 graduates were provided with jobs," the minister said.
Career ceremonies and labor fairs will also be held in 2009, Rahimov added.
The minister said the idea to construct a youth town and center in Baku will not be implemented in 2009.
"Implementing these ideas requires financing. It is impossible to realize these ideas at the moment due to the global financial crisis," Rahimov said.
The ministry's budget will not permit the youth city to be built this year, the minister stressed.
"The Baku City Administration granted land to the ministry to build a youth city. Entrepreneurs should be drawn into the project. But construction partially stopped in Baku due to the crisis," Rahimov said.
Flats will not be granted to young families free of charge in the youth city, Rahimov said.
"The ministry supports long-term mortgage loans for young families at low interest rates without primary payments," the minister said.
