State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations registered Caucasus Muslims Office (CMO). During the meeting at the Committee on Nov. 24, Chairman Hidayat Orujov presented to the Chairman of CMO Haji Allahshukur Pashazade the registration certificate.
At its last session, the Parliament of Azerbaijan amended the Law on Freedom of Religion.
According to the amendment to the Law on Freedom of Religion, all religious communities will be able to act only after being registered by relevant executive authority and the state register of religious organizations.
Last year 102 religious communities were registered in Azerbaijan and thus, the number of religious organizations reached 534.
Of the religious communities registered in 2008, 101 are Islamic, one non-Islamic - Jewish religious community Kyubar functioning in Sumgayit.
