Serbia's President Tomislav Nikolic plans to take part in the opening of the Baku 2015 First European Games, a diplomatic source told Trend Apr. 21.

The solemn opening for the First European Games will be held June 12.

During the visit, the Serbian president is expected to meet with the Azerbaijani officials, the source added.

President Nikolic previously visited Azerbaijan in 2013. The two countries' relations stand at a good level.

Earlier, Serbia's Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said in Baku during an official visit Apr. 13-15 that his country has interest in further developing the ties with Azerbaijan both in the political and economic spheres.

During Vucic's visit, there was an exchange of views on the cooperation prospects in various areas, including in the areas of energy, infrastructure, investment, cargo transportation, cultural, humanitarian and others.

A progress was made at the meetings in the issue of participation of the Azerbaijani companies in the Serbian companies' privatization, particularly, the enterprises of the petrochemical complex and the agro-industrial complexes.

Aside from that, the Azerbaijani companies expressed their interest in making new investments in the infrastructure construction in Serbia.

Serbia's government also presented projects to the potential Azerbaijani investors for creating free economic zones in the Serbian cities of Cacak and Kraljevo.

According to Azerbaijan's State Statistics Committee, the trade between the two countries stood at $3,836,530 in 2014.

Serbia exports to Azerbaijan the agricultural products, equipment for the oil and gas industry, as well as furniture and building materials.

Baku 2015 is the first-ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent, which will take place on June 12-28, 2015.

There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition. Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
