Trend:

To prevent any accident similar to the one that occurred in the power system of Azerbaijan in 2018, Azerenerji OJSC is developing a new microprocessor-based relay protection and an upgraded emergency automation systems to limit and completely eliminate emergency situations, Trend reports citing the company.

"With introducing the updated system, any possible accident at a power plant, substation or on the line will be automatically localized, which, in less than a second, will prevent the entire system from being covered. Imported equipment has been installed for a modern microprocessor-based emergency control system, 90 percent of which has been put into operation, and adjustment work is underway," the company said.

"Thus, the new system is used directly at all power plants and substations built and reconstructed over the past two years. At old power plants and substations that have not been reconstructed, the electromechanical protection system is being replaced by a modern system. In addition, at old stations and substations, a local Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system is being created, which is integrated into the Central Dispatch SCADA system," said Azerenerji.

Along with new emergency control systems and microprocessor-based relay protection, Azerenerji is also implementing significant projects in the field of reconstruction of SCADA, frequency regulation and reactive power compensation.

The Azerbaijan Thermal Power Plant, which suffered an accident in 2018, was completely reconstructed over the past two years. At the same time, reconstruction, repair and restoration works were carried out and continue at 12 power plants and more than 20 substations in the country.
