Health of Former Head of Department on Affairs of Azerbaijan Presidential Administration Worsens

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend K.Zarbaliyeva / The Chairman of the Anti-Torture Committee of Azerbaijan, Elchin Behbudov, said on 7 May that the health of the former Head of the Department on Affairs of the Executive Appart of Azerbaijan President, Akif Muradverdiyev, has got worse.

Behdudov stressed that he met with Muradverdiyev last Saturday at the treatment institution of the Penal Service of Azerbaijan. According to Behbudov, a fatal outcome may appear at any time. "Muradverdiyev has insufficient blood to his brain," Behbudov stressed, saying that Muradverdiyev does not complain about conditions and attitude towards him.

Muradverdiyev was sentenced to six years imprisonment as a result of a trial held at the Court of Heinous Crimes. He was charged in compliance with Articles 179.3.2 of the Criminal Code (misappropriation of state property), 308. 2 (abuse of power), 311 (bribery), and 313 (falsification of documents). A criminal investigation into Articles 28.278 (coup attempt) and 28.220 (mass riots) is under way.
