Azerbaijan Submits 1,500 Appeals to European Court on Human Rights

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr K. Zarbaliyeva / The European Court on Human Rights has received 1,500 appeals from Azerbaijan. A judge of the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan, Vefaiddin Ibayev, said that correspondence on 60 of the appeals was underway, while 8 appeals had been dismissed.

Sentences against Azerbaijan were issued on 3 cases. One of them, the sentence of the former Commander of the Internal Forces of Azerbaijan Fahmin Hajiyev, has been put into practice; the execution of another 2 is in progress.

The appeals mainly deal with the contravention of Article 3 (prohibition of tortures), Article 5 (right to freedom and inviolability), Article 6 (right to just court examination), Article 8 (right to respect for personal and family life), Article 9 (liberty of opinion, conscience and religion), Article 11 (right to freedom of meetings) and Article 13 (right to chose efficient juridical forms for protection of rights) of the European Convention on protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
