Hearing of Azerbaijani Former Economic Development Minister Continues with Testimonies from Victims

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. E.Javadova / The trial at the Court of Heinous Crimes presided over by Judge Tofik Pashayev of Azerbaijan's former Minister of Economic Development, Farhad Aliyev, his brother Rafik Aliyev, former President of the Azpetrol Group of Companies, as well as seventeen others, continues with testimonies from the victims being made.

More than 45 victims, disabled by the Chernobyl disaster and the Karabakh war, originating from Beylagan, Saatly, Yardimly, Belasuvar, Agsu and Kkojaly regions of Azerbaijan provided their testimonies regarding privatization shares they were to receive which were assigned by the President's decree.

The witnesses stated that they appealed to local banks to receive their share from August to November 2004. However instead of the share vouchers they were only offered 20,000 old manats. Perceiving the cash substitute as an insult, the victims refused the money. The witnesses demanded the court provide them with their vouchers which were appropriated by Farhad Aliyev.

The hearing continues with testimonies from the victims.
