The US MasterCard financial corporation announced its intention to begin operations with several cryptocurrencies in 2021 as part of its Mastercard payment system, the press service of the corporation stated, Trend reports citing the company.

"We are preparing for the future in cryptocurrency and payments. MasterCard plans to start supporting transactions in certain cryptocurrencies directly through our network in 2021," said Raj Damodaran, Executive Vice President of Digital Assets, Blockchain Technologies and Partnerships.

Mastercard is ready to conduct transactions with only a few cryptocurrencies, Damodaran noted.

"These are stable coins (cryptocurrencies that are tied to stocks of conventional currencies or physical goods) that are backed by real assets. It is important to maintain the stability of the digital currency so that people can pay with that kind of money in everyday life," he added.

Besides, MasterCard is now actively cooperating with several central banks around the world. So, in the future, the central banks may launch new digital currencies called CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency).

At the moment the financial giant did not give details regarding the anonymity of transactions, the main advantage of cryptocurrencies.
