By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:

The access to the internet of the total population of Azerbaijan reached about 20 percent in 2006-2009, today these figures have reached about 80 percent, analyst at the Azerbaijani Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication Ayhan Satici, said, Trend reports referring to the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication.

According to Internet World Stats, these figures reach currently 77 percent in Kazakhstan and 70 percent in Georgia.

Satici stressed that in connection with the transition to the online education, the importance of access to the internet has greatly increased.

"As a result of the adoption of the appropriate measures, these processes in Azerbaijan did not lead to any negative consequences," the analyst said. "Azerbaijan, together with Microsoft, implemented a virtual school project. Moreover, the availability of a digital device and communication in households is obligatory for learning at home."

"In accordance with the statistics, about 80 percent of households have access to the internet," the analyst said. "This, in turn, is quite high taking into account other Asian countries, for example, the rate of availability of a computer in households in other countries varies as follows: about 62 percent in Georgia, up to 23.4 percent in the Philippines, 20.1 percent in Indonesia and 16.6 percent in India."

Satici said that the negative impact of the pandemic was insignificant in the countries with advanced digitalization.

"The fee of transferring funds in Asian countries varies depending on the region," the analyst said. "The lowest fee for the Central Asian region when transferring $200 was observed in Azerbaijan - one percent."

"This rate ranged from four percent to 10 percent in other countries of Central and South Asia," the analyst said. "This, in turn, shows that traditional methods of money transfers were limited. There was no lag in the countries with developed digitalization, including Azerbaijan, compared to other countries."

"Moreover, Azerbaijan showed quite good results both in Asian countries and in Eurasian internal integration compared to other countries," Satici said.

"Azerbaijan, as opposed to the neighboring countries, without even entering into various regional blocs, was developing from 0.306 to 0.342 in terms of integration with Asia and from 0.481 to 0.555 in terms of integration with Eurasia from 2006 through 2017," the analyst added.

Thus, the results of the report show that as a result of measures taken in the previous years, Azerbaijan was able to ensure the necessary access to the education and technologies even in difficult and limited conditions.
