BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 12
By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:
Some 25 automatic hydroelectric power plants have been built on rivers throughout Azerbaijan since 2020, and it is planned to build 10 more hydroelectric power plants in Karabakh in order to ensure control of Azerbaijan's water resources, head of the water resources management department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Mutallim Abdulhasanov said in an interview with Trend.
According to Abdulhasanov, the work is being carried out within the framework of the project of the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan, which was launched back in 2020.
Abdulhasanov stressed that there is a water reserve in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan in the amount of about two billion cubic meters.
"Today, all the waters of the liberated territories are under state control. We plan to build 10 automatic water hydroelectric plants in Karabakh," he said.
Also, the head of the water resources department said that similar plants will be built on the transboundary rivers Araz and Okhchuchay, as well as on the rivers Tartar, Kandalanchay, Hakari, Khatynchay and some others.
"If necessary, we will increase the number of stations. Work on their construction is carried out at the expense of the state budget and is part of one of the projects of the Cabinet of Ministers of our country," Abdulhasanov said.
