EU names main countries of origin for its oil imports in 3Q2023

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 30. During the third quarter of 2023, a significant portion of the European Union's imports of petroleum oil originated from the United States, comprising 17.7 percent of the total, Trend reports.

According to the European Commission, Norway followed closely, contributing 13.7 percent, while Kazakhstan accounted for 8.2 percent.

In terms of natural gas in its gaseous state, Norway played a pivotal role by supplying almost half of the EU's imports at 48.6 percent. Algeria secured the second position with a share of 17.8 percent, surpassing both Russia (16 percent) and the United Kingdom (10.5 percent).

Shifting the focus to liquified natural gas (LNG), the United States emerged as a major supplier, delivering nearly half of the imported LNG at 48.5 percent. Qatar followed with a 14-percent share, while Algeria and Russia contributed 10.1 and 8.8 percent, respectively.

Meanwhile, in the reporting period of the current year, the EU brought in energy products valued at 35.4 billion euros, totaling 65 million tons. In comparison to the corresponding quarter of 2022, there was a notable decrease in both value (down by 49.1 percent) and net mass (down by 11.3 percent) of imports.
