GDP growth in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan hits 20 percent

In January-April, growth of GDP in the in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) of Azerbaijan increased by 22.2 percent to 224 million manat compared to the same period in 2008, NAR Baku office reported.

Some 44.4 percent or 98.5 million manat of GDP accounted for production of commodities, 114.7 (51.2 percent) million for service. Net profits in production and import made 4.8 percent, or 10.7 million manat of GDP.

The growth in the industrial sphere hit 47.2 million manat (21.1 percent of GDP), 13.3 million (6 percent) manat in agriculture, 38 million (16.9 percent) - in construction, 7.8 million (3.5 percent) - in transport, 7.1 million (3.2 percent) - in communications, 49.3 million (22 percent) - in retail and wholesale, including repair of automobile and various domestic appliances.

On June 3, the official exchange rate is 0.8034 manat to $1.
