The World Bank may extend the scope of a household waste management project in Baku to cover the whole country.

"Within the strategy of partnership with Azerbaijan in 2013-2014 it is envisaged, given a good experience gained during the implementation of project on Baku, to expand into other areas of the country," the office said.

Within the project implemented since 2009, the WB has allocated $29.5 million of its total cost of $41.5 million. However, these funds are envisaged for carrying out institutional reforms in Baku, capacity-building and management, regulation and management of Balakhani solid waste. The project will continue until 2013

As the WB Baku Office reported, a strategy on solid household waste management in Azerbaijan should be developed to expand the project to the whole country. At present, the strategy for 20 years is being prepared for Baku.

Since joining the WB in 1992, Azerbaijan has been granted about $ 2.9 billion to implement 43 projects.
