GM Uzbekistan increases sale of cars in Russia by 36 percent

GM Uzbekistan sold 54,081 cars in Russia in January-July 2011, which is 36 percent more than the figure of the same period of 2010, Automobile Manufacturers Committee of the Association of European Businesses said.

GM Uzbekistan sold 54,081 cars in Russia in January-July 2011, which is 36 percent more than the figure of the same period of 2010, Automobile Manufacturers Committee of the Association of European Businesses said.

The GM Uzbekistan sold 8,954 cars (a 21-percent increase) on the Russian market in July 2011.

Including in January-July 31,470 Nexia cars (a 38-percent increase) and 22,611 Matiz minicars (a 34-percent increase) were sold.
The sales of Nexia cars in July 2011 grew by 25 percent to 5,373 units and Matiz cars - by 15 percent to 3,581 units.

Nexia model ranked ninth among the bestselling cars in Russia in January-July 2011, while Matiz ranked 16th.
Uzavtosanoat and South Korea's Daewoo Motor created a joint venture, UzDaewoo Auto in 1996.

In 2005 Uzavtosanoat purchased 50 percent shares of Daewoo Motor in UzDaewoo Auto for about US$110 million. General Motors and Uzavtosanoat completed a creation process of GM Uzbekistan on the UzDaewooAuto base in March 2008. The new venture charter capital is $266.7 million.

At present, JV "GM Uzbekistan" produces seven models of cars, three models of which are Chevrolet - Captiva, Epica and Spark.

GM Uzbekistan increased production of automobiles by 6.2 percent in 2010 to 217,733 cars. In particular, GM Uzbekistan decreased production of Nexia model by 3.9 percent to 87,100 units and Damas model by 11.6 percent to 20,900 units.

At the same time, production of Matiz models grew by 5.6 percent to 72,999 units. The enterprise produced 23,917 Lacetti model (a 23.3-percent increase), 3,185 Epica model (2.9 times up) and 1,835 Captiva model (66.8 percent) in 2010.

GM Uzbekistan increased car production by 4.2 percent up to 106,334 in January-June 2011 compared to the same period of last year. The plant increased Lacetti car production by 10.7 percent - to 12,636 in January - June.

Nexia car production reduced by 7.6 percent - up to 40,678 units, Matiz - 15.2 percent - up to 29,405, Damas - by 4.6 percent up to 9,109, Epica - by 14.3 percent up to 1,507, Captiva - by 61 percent up to 251 cars. The company produced 12,748 Chevrolet Spark cars in January - June. It began the production in August 2010.
