Sarkozy: Eurozone rescue plan only way to resolve Greek debt
French President Nicolas Sarkozy said Tuesday that the eurozone rescue plan for Greece was "the only possible way to resolve the problem of Greek debt", DPA reported
"Giving a voice to the people is always legitimate," Sarkozy said. But the solidarity of eurozone members required "everyone to agree to necessary efforts," he added.
He was speaking after a meeting with Prime Minister Francois Fillon, Finance Minister Francois Baroin and Foreign Minister Alain Juppe, held to discuss Greece's announcement that it would hold a referendum on the eurozone debt deal.
Sarkozy confirmed that he and German Chancellor Angela Merkel would be meeting Wednesday in Cannes, France, with Greece Prime Minister George Papandreou and the representatives of European institutions and the International Monetary Fund.
