The Azerbaijani State Customs Committee will exercise customs control over goods and vehicles in accordance with new rules approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on January 18, 2013.

According to the Cabinet of Ministers' decision, published on its website on Wednesday, the rules were set forth in a new Customs Code which took effect from January 1, 2012.

The new rules regulate issues related to customs control on vehicles and goods intended for industrial or commercial uses passing through customs registration and border check-points.

Goods not intended for industrial or commercial purposes are to be physically carried across the border under privileged and simplified procedures. Customs control is being exercised in accordance with the Customs Code.

Customs officials can exercise customs control through customs security, attracting specialists and experts to assist in the implementation of customs control, the creation of customs control zones and other means set forth by law.

Thus, customs bodies may use detectors, x-ray machines, copying equipment, mechanical, electrical and electronic devices, facilities for customs control, GPS, etc.), sea (river) vessels and aircraft, the information resources of customs bodies, dogs and other means, the list of which has been determined by the Cabinet of Ministers.

The shipping of documents, a declaration reflecting information about goods and vehicles are required for customs control.

Documents to be submitted to customs bodies, including declaration forms may be submitted in electronic form.
