Reconstruction of Kazakh Almaty-2 railway station may be launched in late 2019

Reconstruction of Almaty-2 railway station can be launched at the end of 2019, deputy mayor of Almaty city Yerlan Aukenov said, according to Kapital.kz.

"Regarding the reconstruction of Almaty-1 and Almaty-2 railway stations, we, together with the national railway company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, adopted a program for which the expected amount of investment will be 24 billion tenge," he said.

Aukenov noted that the project for the reconstruction of Almaty-1 station has already been completed, and the design work for Almaty-2 station is at the state expertise stage and has already begun.

"Next year it is planned to start the reconstruction of Almaty-1 station, and at the end of 2019, at best, we will begin the reconstruction of Almaty-2 station," the deputy mayor said.

He noted that the useful area of Almaty-2 station will be doubled.

"We are confident that 100-percent loading of the stations will be provided, and comfortable conditions will be created in them," Aukenov said, adding that the two stations will become powerful logistics hubs.

Located in the city center, Almaty-2 railway station serves thousands of people daily. The station is the main point of departure for passengers in all directions, including international routes. Domestic destinations include such cities as Astana, Shymkent, Petropavl, Atyrau, Jezkazgan, Oral, etc.

The official exchange rate on October 22 is 366.43 KZT/USD.
