90% of wheat in Iran sown by using equipment

Some 90 percent of wheat in dryland farming, and 75 percent of wheat in irrigated farming is sown by using equipment, said Esmaeil Esfandiarpour, wheat project executive official of Iran’s Ministry of Agriculture Jihad, Trend reports via Mehr News Agency.

He said that there is a joint project of Iran and the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT). This project is being implemented in Khuzestan, Golestan, Fars, Hamadan, Qazvin, Zanjan and Ardabil provinces, he noted.

He added that six test projects covering five hectares each are being implemented in the Khuzestan province, four test projects covering five hectares each are being implemented in the Golestan province, three test projects covering five hectares each - in Fars province, one test project covering ten hectares each - in Qazvin province, two test projects covering ten hectares each - in Zanjan province, two test projects covering ten hectares each - in Ardabil province and two test projects covering ten hectares each - in Hamadan province.

As for the joint project of Iran and the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), good results have been achieved with the implementation of this project in the provinces of Lorestan, Kermanshah, Kurdistan and West Azerbaijan, Esfandiarpour said.
