Turkmenistan announces cotton harvest plan

This year, 550,000 hectares of land are allocated for cotton in Turkmenistan, and a total of 1.50 million tons of raw materials are planned to be harvested, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Agriculture of the country.

The corresponding decree was signed by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, in order to further increase cotton production based on the rational use of land, water, agricultural machinery and mineral fertilizers, and carrying out agrotechnical measures in the provinces of the country.

The Ministry of Agriculture, along with the administrations of the country’s Akhal, Balkan, Dashoguz, Lebap and Mary provinces were entrusted to ensure the production of appropriate volumes of cotton during 2019 by organizing the work of tenants, land users and landowners.

Cotton seeds are planned to be distributed by districts, accounting for the soil and climatic conditions, in accordance with the plan approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection.

The head of state also signed an order on approving water use limits for regions and districts for 2019.
