In the coming weeks, Iran will import live animals through the Bazargan customs in the West Azerbaijan Province, Kamyar Dahim, Director General of Iran's West Azerbaijan Province Veterinary Department, told Mehr Information Agency, Trend reports.

According to Dahim, necessary licenses have been issued for the import of sheep and goats in order to regulate the cost of meat in the province and the region.

Dahim said that goats will be imported from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, and sheep will be imported from Turkey, Romania and Spain, all via the Bazargan customs.

The official added that the number of animals to be imported is yet to be determined.

"With the import of these animals, 60 tons of meat will be produced daily in West Azerbaijan Province," he said.

Dahim said that 20 tons of meat will be distributed to sales centers in West Azerbaijan, and the rest in the neighboring provinces.

Recently, the price of 1 kg of sheep in Iran rose to 1.2 million rials (app. $28.5), and that of 1 kg of beef to 1 million rials (app. $23.8).
