Iran to open facilities producing more than 10M tons of steel and copper

Plants for producing minimum 10 million tons of steel and copper will be commissioned in Iran during the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2019), Jafar Sargheini, Iran's Deputy Minister of Industry, Mines, and Trade, told Shata News Agency, Trend reports.

According to Sargheini, the current year’s program includes the commissioning of a copper plant in East Azerbaijan Province, a copper plant in Shahr-e Babak in Kerman Province, 2 concentrates and a production plant producing 2.5 million tons of pellet in Sangan in Razavi Khorasan Province.

Moreover, it is also planned to commission a sponge iron production facility in Baft in Kerman Province, as well as facilities for the production of sponge iron and steel in Sirjan in Kerman Province.

"This year, investments will be allocated for a minimum of 50-60 small mines," he said.

While comparing the previous year (started March 21, 2018) with the preceding year (started March 21, 2017) in the Iranian mining sector, Sargheini said that the mining sector had produced about 420 million tons of coal in the preceding year (started March 21, 2017), and 460 million tons in the previous year(started March 21, 2018).

According to him, about 250,000 tons of copper, 360,000 tons of aluminum, 56 million tons of cement, 75 million tons of iron ore, 216,000 tons of zinc, 25 million tons of crude steel, 1,6 million tons of coal concentrate, 380 million square meters of glazed tiles and ceramic, and 1.5 million tons of raw glass were produced last year.
