Housing, utility services leading in price growth in Uzbekistan’s service sector

Services became the leader in the price rally in Uzbekistan for the first ten months of 2019, Trend reports citing Uzbekistan’s State Statistics Committee.

They were 19.5 percent more expensive compared to Oct. 2018.

The top three list in the growth of prices and tariffs is led by services in the field of housing and communal services, where the growth was 29.7 percent, read the message.

In addition to tariffs for housing and communal services, from Jan. through Oct. 2019, the cost of education services increased quite significantly by 22.6 percent, including services at pre-school educational institutions (20.5 percent).

Relatively to Oct. last year, household services (by 19.5 percent), passenger transport services (by 14.8 percent), sports (by 14.7 percent), medical (by 14.3 percent), and leisure prices (by 13.1 percent) and others went up significantly as well.

In terms of tariff growth, the service sector moved to first place. Official statistics recorded that in annual terms (Oct. 2019 compared to Oct. 2018), services became more expensive by 19.5 percent, food products - by 18 percent, and non-food products - 12.2 percent.

In monthly terms (Oct. to Sept. 2019), an increase in the average price level in Uzbekistan’s consumer market amounted to 1.5 percent.

On average, food products rose by 2.8 percent per month, non-food products by 0.7 percent, and services by 0.4 percent.

With regard to the main groups of non-food products, prices for tobacco products (5.7 percent), personal transport (2.3 percent), carpets and rugs (1.4 percent), and detergents and cleaners (1.2 percent), personal hygiene products (0.9 percent), building materials and household textiles (0.8 percent), clothes and shoes (0.6 percent) rose most significantly in October. Propane and methane prices decreased by 5.3 percent and 0.3 percent, respectively.

While the average increase in tariffs for services in Oct. reached 0.4 percent, tariffs for sports services (2.2 percent), consumer services (1.2 percent), medical services (0.8 percent), leisure and passenger transport (0.6 percent each) increased the most.
