French Carrefour retailer announced to open seven new stores in Uzbekistan in the next two years and, representative of UAE’s Majid Al Futtaim holding company told Trend in an interview.
The official added that Majid Al Futtaim which operates Carrefour on franchising conditions, sees great prospect for further growth, continuously studying further expansion opportunities in the market.
“This new market entrance alone will positively impact Uzbekistan’s local economy by creating 2500 new jobs, indirectly and directly, in the first two years of operation as well as support 600 local suppliers, manufacturers, producers and farmers across Uzbekistan,” the representative stressed.
Economies in the CIS region, including Uzbekistan, have a relatively low penetration of modern trade and international grocery retail, the representative added.
“By bringing our best practice, trade expertise, and delivering exceptional value and customer experience, Carrefour can serve their customers’ growing expectations and develop the retail industry in the medium to long term run,” the official stated.

The Majid Al Futtaim’s representative also said about the prospects of opening Carrefour hypermarkets in Azerbaijan.
“Azerbaijan is within our franchise network. We continue to study the market, and are committed to invest in opportunities we believe will nurture our business. We will announce any new developments once they are confirmed,” the official stated.
