Subsistence minimum for an average household in Georgia decreased in April 2020, compared to March 2020, Trend reports with reference to the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

In March of this year, the subsistence minimum for an average household was 206.1 lari ($64.54), and in April - 199.6 lari ($62.50).

In March 2020, subsistence minimum per capita for single-member household reached 176.8 lari ($55.36), for two-member household – 282.8 lari ($88.56), for three-member household – 318.2 lari ($99.64), for four-member household – 353.6 lari ($110.73), for five-member household – 397.8 lari ($124.57), for six and more member household – 470.2 lari ($147.24).

Geostat calculates the subsistence minimum on the basis of the minimum food basket, which was determined by the order of the Minister of Health of Georgia of May 8, 2003.

The food basket contains the necessary set of products to maintain the normal life of an able-bodied man. The minimum food basket consists of 40 types of products, including bread, cereals, meat, dairy products, vegetables and pastries.

The subsistence minimum is only an indicator of the cost of food. It does not include utility bills, transportation expenses and other obligatory expenses of the population.
