By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

During the coronavirus pandemic, demand for the products of the Georgian cheese producer Alpia increased by 200 percent, Trend reports via Georgian media.

According to the founder of the company Darejan Kanteladze, the domestic cheese market is very competitive.

“During the quarantine, many companies were unable to meet all the safety standards set by the state, so there was a shortage in the market. Accordingly, the demand for our products increased by 200 percent, and we continued to work in full compliance with all measures. The post-quarantine period was relatively more difficult when the market opened and consumers began to buy cheaper powdered cheese. There is a shortage of natural milk in the country, and cheese is increasingly made from Iranian powder, which is low priced good making it difficult to compete,” she said.

According to her, Alpia is not planning price reductions.

“There is a lot of interest in our products, and they sell well both in small stores and in chain stores. Therefore, in this way we manage to withstand price competition,” Kanteladze said.

The Alpia company was established in 2009, its investment value amounted to 1.5 million lari ($489,509).
