BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 1

By Fidan Babayeva – Trend:

The "From City to Countryside" new project is being implemented in Azerbaijan through the support of the PASHA Holding company, Agro Procurement and Supply OJSC, and the US Agency for International Development, Trend reports referring to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Agriculture.

The meetings are being held with farmers who have joined the "From City to Countryside" project, the ministry said.

The meetings were held to inform local farmers about the basic principles and international experience of agrotourism, as well as to improve their skills.

"Until today, the meetings have been held in Ismayilli, Sheki, Zagatala, Gabala, and Shamakhi districts. Topics such as "Hospitality in agrotourism", "Organizing of food in agrotourism" and "Organizing of clean work in agrotourism" were discussed at the meetings,” the ministry said.

“The goal of the project is to develop agrotourism in Azerbaijan, increase employment of the population living in the countryside, create alternative sales channels for local farms, and expand tourism opportunities for city residents and foreign tourists,” the ministry said.

"To date, 71 farm owners have participated in the training conducted by local and foreign specialists within the project. In total, about 200 farmers have been registered to participate in the project. Some 76 out of 118 farms have been found suitable for the project,” the ministry added.

The reconstruction work is underway in the farms involved in the project.

Since the beginning of the project implementation, more than 40 agro-tours to the farms in various districts have been organized. In total, more than 800 tourists, about 150 of them are foreign tourists, have joined these tours.

The requirements of the quarantine regime are strictly observed during the organization of meetings. All participants are provided with medical protective equipment (gloves, masks, sanitizers). The use of protective equipment and the observance of social distance is strictly controlled.
