Currently, Azerbaijan is developing a strategy for the development of silkworm breeding, modernizing processing techniques of Azeripek LLC, increasing efficiency, and, of course, producing new products that meet the market demand, Director of the Production and Operations Department of the Azerbaijan Industrial Corporation Ilham Bayramov told Trend.

“A contract worth over $1 million was signed with a Turkish company in 2020,” the director of the department added.

"The relations were also established with the companies from China, Korea, Italy, and Japan, the corresponding product samples were sent and the negotiations on the export of Azerbaijani products are being held," Bayramov said.

As for the prices, the director emphasized that in connection with the coronavirus pandemic, the prices for raw silk in the world markets sharply dropped, the demand for this product decreased.

"An increase in the production of raw silk, as well as the production of various silk products that meet the needs of the market, are our main goals and steps are being taken in this direction in stages,” Bayramov said.

“So, first of all, it is planned to increase the processing capacity of the existing equipment, introduce a two-shift operating mode, as well as purchase new and more modern equipment," the director said.

Azeripek LLC buys a kilogram of the raw cocoon from silkworm breeders at 4 manat ($2.3) while the state pays them subsidies in the amount of 5 manat ($2.9) for each kilogram.
