Some Ukrainian ventures started importing coal from Kazakhstan in 4Q2020, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine told Trend.

Thus, the ministry said that the import was launched by the country’s Cherkasy CHP Plant of Cherkasskoye Khimvolokno JSC.

Thus, the overall coal import volume from Kazakhstan by the venture equaled 73,000 tons in 4Q2020 and 49,000 tons over the first 27 days of January 2021.

Kazakhstan has extracted 109.2 million tons of coal in 2020, which is slightly more than the plan of 107.2 million tons for the year.

Thus, 58.8 million tons of the extracted coal were supplied to the energy-producing ventures of the country, which is 2.6 percent more than in 2019. Some 5.6 million tons were supplied to the country’s industrial ventures, whereas 10.6 million tons were used for utilities. Coal export was 29.3 million tons.

In accordance with Kazakhstan’s plan of the needs of coal products for public utility needs and the population for the period 2020-2021, the consumption volume amounted to about 10 million tons, of which about 2.8 million tons account for the utility sector, and 7.2 million tons account for the needs of the population.

As of January 15, 2021, the provision of coal reserves in relation to the general plan is 93.4 percent on the utility sector; 99.5 percent on the needs of the population.
