Razavi Khorasan Province can meet Iran's iron ore needs

The Razavi Khorasan Province (northeastern Iran) can meet Iran's iron ore needs for minimum 30 years, Deputy Chairman of Industry, Mine and Trade Organization of the Razavi Khorasan Province Mohammad Tavakkoli told IRNA, Trend reports.

The official stressed that Iran has a total of 3 billion tons of iron ore reserves. About 1.5 billion tons of these reserves are in Razavi Khorasan Province.

Tavakkoli added that iron ore concentrate mines are located in Khaf, Taybad, Gonabad and Bardaskan counties.

“Certain plans are being implemented in Iran's Opal Parsian Sangan Industrial and Mining Company, Khorasan Steel Company and East Kaveh Steel Company to produce a total of 7.5 million tons of iron ore concentrate per year,” he said.

Reportedly, iron ore is the raw material of steel. A number of plans are being implemented in Iran's Razavi Khorasan Province to increase steel production by 10 million tons a year.

Current data on enterprises operating in the province:

11 enterprises on the production of iron ore concentrate with the annual capacity of 22.2 million tons,

10 enterprises on the production of iron ore pellets with the annual capacity of 25.4 million tons,

10 enterprises on the production of sponge iron with the annual capacity of 9.4 million tons,

9 enterprises on the production of steel ingots with the annual capacity of 7.72 million tons,

6 enterprises on the production of steel rolling with the annual capacity of 3.7 million tons.
