Georgia paid $2.3 million for the import of 1,532 tons of olives in 2020, Trend reports citing the Georgian National Statistical Office (Geostat).
As reported, this figure is reduced by 6.6 percent compared to the 2019 data.
According to Geostat, Georgia buys frozen or canned olives, mainly from Spain, without the addition of vinegar or acetic acid.
The list of major suppliers looks like this:
1. Spain - $1.7 million, 1,175.2 tons;
2. Turkey - $223,800, 121.1 tons;
3. Armenia - $111,000, 90.2 tons;
4. Hungary - $71,500, 36.9 tons;
5. Greece - $54,500, 25.5 tons;
6. Egypt - $48,100, 57.9 tons;
7. Italy - $20,100, 5.9 tons;
8. Germany - $10,400, 6 tons;
9. France - $10,100, 3 tons;
10. Ukraine - $1,900, 1 ton.
From January through April 2021, 304.6 tons of olives worth $513,000 were imported to Georgia.
Some 18.5 tons of products worth $29,900 were exported.
Last year 108.3 tons of olives worth $149,000 were exported from Georgia only to Armenia, and in 2019 the value of olives sold from Georgia amounted to $600. In 2018, Georgia sold 30.5 tons of olives for $41,800 in Armenia and Iran.
