The volume of Iran's iron ore reserves amounts to 2.73 billion tons, at present, Trend reports citing the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO).
According to the report, Iran discovered mines with reserves of 977 million tons over the past six years (from March 21, 2015 through March 20, 2021). This is accounts for about 33 percent of Iran's total iron ore reserves.
The exploration work is being carried out in 660,000 square kilometers in 30 provinces of Iran. The work on the exploration has been improved by 80 percent, the report said.
“In total, 2 billion tons will be added to Iran's iron ore reserves by March 20, 2041,” the report said.
As reported, Iran produced about 94 million tons of iron ore over the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021).
