About 110,000 tons of olives are projected to be harvested in Iran within the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), an official, responsible for the 'olive plan' of the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Iran, Javad Mirarab Razi said, Trend reports citing the ministry.
Mirarab Razi noted that about 55 percent of the harvested olives are expected to be transported to olive oil refineries.
The executor added that about 120,000 tons of olives were harvested in Iran over the last Iranian year (March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021).
“Iran has 75,000 hectares of olive gardens. About 58,000 hectares of these gardens are productive and 17,000 hectares are unproductive,” he said.
According to Mirarab Razi, the plan to rehabilitate about 16,000 hectares of gardens will be implemented.
“In the near future, the National Olive Fund will be established in cooperation with the Supportive Fund of Investment Development in Agriculture of Iran,” the official said.
