Iran paying out money to local tea farmers

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 7. Over 210 billion rials (about $5 million) was paid to tea farmers in Iran for purchased tea leaves in the country, on July 6, 2022, the Chairman of the Iran Tea Organization, Habib Jahansaz told IANA, Trend reports.

“Thus, a total of 4.4 trillion rials (about $105 million) has been paid to tea farmers in Iran since the beginning of the current tea harvesting season in the country (April 21, 2022), which is 73 percent of the total money,” he said.

Jahansaz noted that 70,300 tons of tea leaves worth 6 trillion rials (about $143 million) have been purchased from farmers in Iran since beginning of this season. Of this, 51,800 tons are the 1st grade, while the rest - the 2nd grade.

The chairman also added that 15,800 tons of dry tea have been produced from purchased tea leaves.

The price of first-grade tea leaves is 92,000 rials (about $2.19), and the second-grade tea leaves are 71,000 rials (about $1.69) this season.
