TEHRAN, Iran, August 24. Iran's steel industry is predicted to produce about 27 million tons in the current Iranian year (started March 21,2022), a board member of the Iran Steel Producers Association Reza Shahrestani told Trend.

The government has planned to increase steel production to 38 million tons for the current Iranian year but the output is likely to decline to 27 million tons, he noted.

Shahrestani indicated that the power outages in the summer have caused more pressure on the steel industry and the government decided to impose electricity supply restrictions for the industrial sector and spare households.

The steel industries faced 12 hours of power cuts per day in the last Iranian year (started March 21, 2021) he said adding that the blackout hours increased to 16 hours per day in the current Iranian year.

According to the official, the government's power cuts timetable for the steel industry is expected to increase from August 23.

The low steel production caused a rise in the price of steel
