TEHRAN, Iran, October 1. The price of rice has increased by 30 percent in Iran’s northern markets, said chairman of Rice Sellers Union in Babol Hassan Taghizadeh, Trend reports citing ILNA.
"Demand for purchasing rice in the northern provinces has declined," he said adding that less than ten percent of the product has been purchased from other provinces.
He underlined that retailers are not inclined to purchase rice based on free market rate of 900,000 rials ($21) per kilo and choose to purchase according to official price of 850,000 rials (about $20) per kilo.
According to the official, the volume of rice production will increase by the upcoming harvest in the next month but the prices would remain high.
