BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 8. The volume of bony fish caught in the Caspian Sea in Iran increased by 20 percent since the beginning of the current Caspian Sea fishing season in the country (October 9, 2022, to February 7, 2023), Deputy Chairman of Iran Fisheries Organization Abbas Pour Naderi said, Trend reports citing the organization’s website.

Pour Naderi said that Iran caught a total of 2,212 tons of bony fish in the Caspian Sea within the mentioned period.

The deputy chairman added that among bony fish, mullet was the most caught fish, which accounts for 60 percent of the total volume.

According to him, fishing was carried out by 115 companies. On average, each company caught about 19 tons of bony fish.

As reported, fishing in the Caspian Sea in Iran begins in early October and lasts until April 20.

Meanwhile, Iran caught a total of 9,714 tons of various bony fish in the Caspian Sea during the last fishing season (October 7, 2021, through April 20, 2022) in the country. This is a decrease of approximately 14 percent compared to the previous season. So, the figure stood at 11,061 tons in the previous season.
