BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 14. The non-oil exports from Iran’s South Khorasan Province rose by 72 percent in value and 42 percent in volume during the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through October 22, 2023), compared to the same period last year, said Ali Sadeghi, director general for the Department of Economic Affairs of the South Khorasan Governor Office, Trend reports.
According to Sadeghi, the province exported $95 million worth of non-oil goods, weighing 671,000 tons in 7 months.
The director general added that the main export items were construction materials, light hydrocarbons, and agricultural products, which were mainly destined for Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Iraq, and Kazakhstan.
He also mentioned that the province’s customs facilitated the export of $343 million worth of goods, weighing 1.29 million tons, that were produced in other Iranian provinces during the same period. This marked a 22-percent increase in value and a 41-percent increase in volume, compared to the same period last year.
“Furthermore, 80,000 tons of cargo were transited to Afghanistan through Mahirud customs of the province over seven months, showing an increase of 8 percent compared to the same period last year,” Sadeghi said.
Overall, Iran’s overall non-oil exports reached $28.3 billion in value and 79.5 million tons in volume in the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through October 22, 2023). Compared to the same period of the previous Iranian year, the value of non-oil exports decreased by 1 percent, while the volume increased by 29.3 percent.
Iran’s non-oil exports do not include crude oil, mazut, and white oil, which are subject to US sanctions that prevent Iran from exporting them freely. Therefore, Iran has been focusing on increasing its non-oil exports to cope with the economic pressure.
